Kunstkamera

Kunstkamera - the museum
A few days ago I was at the Kunstkamera museum. This is a collection of cultural heritage from all over the world, but also features the first exhibition called "The Monsters", but I come back to that later. Kunstkamera is particularly interesting, since it is the first museum in Russia and the second in Europe to be founded. Another interesting fact is that Peter the Great (the founder of the city) created this museum. The building itself is located just across the River Neva opposite to the Winter Palace of the Hermitage museum. It is claimed that nowadays it keeps one of the most detailed and complete collections of foreign cultures including objects from indigenous populations of North America, Malaysia, Indochina, Vietnam, China, Japan, but also a collection of astronomic measurement systems. However, the first exhibition "The Monsters" intended to teach the citizens about the anatomy of human beings, which sounds interesting at first. However, "The Monsters" consists of abnormalities only, which means that you will find unborn babies with two heads, and three legs and so on there... conserved in in glasses...

Feedback
The building itself is beautiful with its green and white colors and especially during sunny days (which are super rare in St. Petersburg, but I was very lucky as you will see on the pictures),
In combination with the river, it is an awesome sight!
The museum is highly recommendable, since it is well equipped and structured in a way that makes visits also without tour guides very interesting and worth. However, if you have a weak stomach, I would not go to "The Monsters". But don't be too afraid, it is only a rather small part of the whole museum and you can easily skip it!

"Ты в моём сердце - я люблю Питер"
literally: "You are in my heart - I love St. Petersburg"

Some crazy people just walk on the melting ice of River Neva to declare there endless love ... to a city
